Peter Rukavina kicked off Day 2 at Access with his session, previously called Infinite Malleability, now called Building Capabilities vs Building Applications. The session had Peter's typical thoughtful and elegant content and delivery that makes you think about what you are doing.
Building Capabilities - A great example of the difference between a Capability vs an Application is the contrast between the ?? (Pick One) Botanical Garden and the Charlottetown Boulder Park. At the 1st, one is harassed with signs and warnings about hoe to be in the Park, and mostly what not to do in the Park. The Charlottetown Boulder Park on the other hand is a capability of the area, something that is part of the landscape rather than an application inserted into the landscape. Peter also contrasted the Google Search (a capability) with the Robertson Library website, which is an overwhelming series of applications which no doubt perplex the average user just as the Botanical Gardens do. Peter's insights are always bang on and worth a listen.
Cary Gordon followed Peter followed Peter with a session on Drupal. He provided a good overview of the project, mentioned some library-focused sites and encouraged people to join the community.
